Foil Drive Help: Assist Slim Endurance Battery Configuration (28V)
Read this before riding with the Slim Endurance Battery. Never charge the 28V Slim Endurance Battery with a 40V charger.
The Gen2 Assist Slim runs on two different batteries with different electrical architectures:
| Battery | Voltage | Cells | Charger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slim Performance | 40V | 11S | 40V charger |
| Slim Endurance | 28V | 8S | 28V charger |
The Slim comes from the factory set up for the 40V Slim Performance Battery. If you're using the 28V Slim Endurance Battery, you must change both the controller setting and the Slim electronics setting before you ride. The wrong configuration can cause incorrect battery readings, incorrect power delivery and possible permanent battery damage, and battery damage from incorrect configuration isn't covered by warranty.
Performance vs Endurance
The 40V Performance Battery gives higher peak thrust, more punch and more consistent power through the discharge, and it's the smallest and lightest Slim option. The 28V Endurance Battery gives longer runtime, with lower peak thrust and a more gradual drop in power as it discharges. It can feel less powerful from around 50% charge. The Endurance battery is longer and narrower to fit the extra capacity while keeping the slim shape.
Chargers and nose cones
- 40V Slim Performance → 40V charger (supplied with the Gen2 Slim system).
- 28V Slim Endurance → 28V charger, which is not included with the Endurance battery or Slim system. Gen1 owners' existing 28V chargers may work if they have the correct connector. Older 28V chargers with the smaller connector may need an adapter.
- Both Slim nose cones come with the Gen2 Slim system. Always use the correct nose cone for the battery you're running.
Step 1: Set the controller
- Turn the controller on.
- Press and hold the Cruise Control trigger, and while holding it, tap the Power button to enter the menu. Then release the trigger.
- Tap the Power button to scroll to Battery Serial Number, then press and hold Power to select it.
- It will show 11 (11S / 40V). Tap Power until it shows 08 (8S / 28V).
- Use the Cruise Control trigger to exit back to the main screen.
To switch back to the Performance battery, repeat the steps and set it back to 11.
Step 2: Set the Slim electronics
Connect the Slim to the Foil Drive App and select the matching battery configuration during setup. The Slim remembers this until you change it, so if you only own one battery type you only do this once. If you own both batteries, change the app setting and the controller setting every time you swap.
Pre-ride checklist
- 40V Slim Performance: controller set to 11, Slim electronics set to Performance / 40V, 40V charger, correct nose cone.
- 28V Slim Endurance: controller set to 08, Slim electronics set to Endurance / 28V, 28V charger, correct nose cone.
If you're not sure which configuration your system is on, don't ride until you've checked.
