PPC Orbit Parawing

The PPC Orbit is a dual-skin parawing from PPC Foiling in New Zealand, developed with NOVA Paragliders. PPC set out to build a parawing that drives upwind like a dual-skin wing but still stows easily for hands-free downwinders, and to give it more low-end power than a typical dual-skin design.

The key feature is PPC's patent-pending Power Assist Line (PAL) system, built into the carbon bar. Pull the brake line into full brake for extra low-end power to get up on foil in lighter wind, then release it once you are flying and the wing goes back to efficient upwind mode. PPC describes the result as the low-end of a single-skin wing with the upwind efficiency and comfort of a dual-skin.

Construction

• 26 g/sqm silicone-coated fabric on the top and bottom skins for low weight and a small pack size
• Full trailing-edge openings to let air and water out quickly on relaunch
• Kevlar lines throughout; sheathed, color-coded B and C lines to reduce tangles
• Wax-coated, larger diameter A lines that are easier on the hands when stashing
• Ergonomic carbon bar: 36 cm (2.7m and 3.5m), 42 cm (4.5m and 5.9m)

Wind Range

Wind ranges are PPC's figures and depend on rider weight, board, and foil size.
