V2 Wireless Controller overview

The V2 Wireless Controller runs your Foil Drive and shows real-time telemetry, with a few adjustable settings.

  • Power button: turns the controller on and off, cycles through telemetry with short presses, and navigates the menu.
  • Throttle trigger: squeeze for more power, release for less.
  • Cruise Control trigger: for experienced riders only.

Once the throttle lock (LCK) is released, the screen shows throttle %. Short presses of Power cycle through motor RPM, battery voltage, temperature and battery % remaining.

Menu: turn the controller on, hold the Cruise Control trigger for about 3 seconds to release LCK, keep holding it and tap Power, then let go of the trigger. Short presses of Power scroll (an arrow marks the selected option), and a long press selects. Options include Pair, Throttle Limit (20–100%, default 100%, handy for learners or lighter riders), Cruise on/off and Cruise Pre-set (advanced riders only), Battery Serial Number (Assist 06, Assist PLUS 08, Assist MAX 11, Assist SLIM 11, Assist SLIM Endurance 08), Calibration (Triggers), and Throttle Lock and Throttle Lock Time.

Don't change Motor Poles (should read 07), VESC Communication (should be ON) or Speed Source (should be VESC). These are manufacturing settings. Only change them if Foil Drive Support tells you to.

Pairing a controller

You may need to pair if you've got a new or replacement controller or the controller has lost its connection to your system.

  1. Hold the Power button until the controller turns on.
  2. Hold the Cruise Control trigger, tap Power once, then release the trigger to open the menu.
  3. Short-press Power until the arrow is next to 4. Pairing, then long-press Power. The screen shows PAIRING.
  4. Connect the battery to your Foil Drive as normal. The controller returns to the menu when pairing succeeds (Assist and Assist PLUS motors also play their pairing tones). If it doesn't, start again from step 1.
  5. Press the Cruise Control trigger once to exit. The motor plays its start-up tones and you're ready to go.

Replacing the trigger springs

Go gently. The trigger pivot posts are moulded into the controller housing, and forcing anything can break them and mean a new housing.

You'll need the replacement spring(s) or trigger(s), a small Phillips screwdriver, and optionally needle-nose pliers and a small drill bit or screwdriver to help line things up.

  1. Turn the controller off, remove the five Phillips screws from the rear cover and lift it off. Nothing will spring out.
  2. Lift one side of the trigger, ease it off the pivot post (don't lever or twist it), and remove the spring.
  3. Match the right spring: the long-arm spring goes in the smaller Cruise Control trigger, and the short-arm spring goes in the larger Throttle trigger. It sounds backwards, but that's correct.
  4. Fit the spring into the trigger so its U-shaped section pushes on the trigger and its locating arm faces into the housing. Compress it slightly to line up the holes, then lower the trigger onto the pivot post. A small drill bit or screwdriver through the holes helps keep them aligned. Make sure the locating arm sits in the moulded groove, and use light pressure only.
  5. Pull and release the trigger several times. It should return smoothly all the way to neutral. If it doesn't, take it out and check the spring orientation and groove.
  6. Check that no wires are pinched, refit the cover and tighten the five screws evenly without overtightening.
  7. Power on and confirm the throttle reads 0% when released and moves smoothly through its full range. If it doesn't, recalibrate the triggers from the Calibration menu option.

Don't use your Foil Drive if the throttle doesn't reliably return to 0%.
